Insecurity will motivate but could destroy

I was talking to this huge bodybuilder the other day. The conversation eventually turned to him telling me how his friends use to tease him about being really skinny. And he shared how that fueled him to be massive. I could sense the pride in his eyes as he showed me his contest photos. But at the same time I could feel his hurt.

I have had plenty of these insecurities in my teenage years. I was teased for being weak and uncoordinated. In my 20’s, I leaned into all kinds of sports – weightlifting, boxing, muay thai, swimming, tennis, basketball, American football, etc. because I was fueled by my teenage insecurities. And it is such a great feeling to prove to myself that I overcame those insecurities.

Insecurities can be a fuel but I think we need to understand that insecurities if left unchecked or unaddressed can lead to disaster.

Insecurities can fuel people to do awful things because they want to prove a point.

So it is best to understand yourself. Understand your insecurities. Address them. And work on them.
