Confidence comes from preparation and mastery

You can’t convince yourself to be confident. You can’t look at yourself in the mirror and positively tell yourself that you are a confident person.

You can’t fake confidence. The real you comes out when the pressure is on.

I always remember Kobe Bryant saying confidence comes from preparation. But I have to add that confidence also needs mastery. When you are a master at your craft, nothing fazes you. You are the master.

The road to confidence is filled with frustrations. Kobe airballed 4 shots in his rookie year during an elimination game against the Utah Jazz in the playoffs.

That was superficial confidence. His game was not mature yet. He had more learning to do. More hours at the gym to go. He was a rookie. He needed more experience playing in the NBA.

So Kobe put in the work. He mastered his craft. He was obsessed at being the best basketball player.

The older and more experienced Kobe had that aura. He was the man! All the hours at the gym. All the games he played. He was truly a master at his craft.

Understand that the road to mastery is tough. Your confidence will be shaken. You’re just not there yet! But put in the work. Real confidence will follow.

You’re gonna be the man soon. Keep your head up.
